While relatively new to the area, Shawn is not new to real estate. In fact, he has maintained his Real Estate Salesman’s License in the State of Florida since 1982. After working in the Sunny Isles and South Beach sections of Dade County Florida, Shawn successfully negotiated and acquired three of his own investment properties, which he actively rented and managed for several years prior to selling.
Shawn also worked for a small real estate firm in Westchester County, New York, where he sold unique condominiums in a converted school building on-site, before buying and selling his own properties in Connecticut.
In addition to his real estate activities, Shawn also was recently the principal owner of a travel franchise, and enjoyed designing travel experiences around the globe for clients. He has travelled to all seven continents, including a trek through Tanzania and Rwanda to see the mountain gorillas, as well as to Antarctica to see the South Georgia Islands, China, Tibet, and India, as well as Europe.
Shawn performed in several community music theater productions while a Connecticut resident. A now retired public school music teacher, Shawn has maintained a busy private schedule teaching piano, violin, and voice. While a teacher in Rye, New York, Shawn produced and directed over thirty Broadway and Jr. Broadway productions.
After completing his Bachelors and Masters at Manhattanville College, Shawn earned his doctorate in Music Education from Columbia University. He taught elementary school in New York, Florida, and Connecticut, and was Elementary Music Coordinator for several years before serving as Coordinator of the Music Department in Rye, New York.
Shawn Amdur performed in Manhattan and New Jersey included ensemble opera, oratorio, and Metropolitan Singers. In addition, Shawn sang with Di Capo Opera Theater of New York City.
He frequently sang and performed with the Holy Trinity Greek Church in Manhattan, and later with the Shaaray Tefila Synagogue in Westchester County.
Shawn was a member of the prestigious Lambs , the oldest theatrical club in New York. He has sat on a National Endowment for the Arts Drama Department screening new plays committee. He has been a patron of New Music Festival at Goodspeed Opera House in Connecticut. More recently, he was asked to contribute a reflective piece for a professional music education journal. In that piece, Shawn reminisced and shared his insights about a visionary educator who had a profound impact on his life.
Shawn Amdur served as the President of Troupers Light Opera, Darien, CT., where he performed while leading an established Gilbert and Sullivan community theater. Later, Shawn was approached to serve as both stage director and musical director, while producing and performing in an original show. Those performances included The Kate Theater in Old Saybrook, CT, as well as the Wilton Playshop.
Selected as a Professional of the Year in his area, for a Who’s Who Publication, as well as four additional Who’s Who publications, and featured in 101 Experts. Shawn was recognized by his former school district for “The Extra Mile Award.” He was also awarded the Golden Baton Award from the Westchester Philharmonic Orchestra, Westchester, New York.
A lover of Argentinian Tango, Shawn has been to Argentina numerous times to do as much tango dancing as he can take in. In addition, Shawn also owned property in the beautiful borough of Recoleta, Buenos Aires. He has had the pleasure of dancing with world-renowned teachers and dancers.
